Alfa Revival Cup 2026: Mugello ignites a stacked grid ready to fight for early supremacy

The opening clash of a season set to deliver hard racing from the very first lap.

April 14, 2026: The Alfa Revival Cup roars back into action at Mugello Circuit, launching a new season of historic Alfa Romeo racing with a grid that is deep, diverse and fiercely competitive. Promoted by Canossa Events, the championship brings together GT and Touring cars from 1947 to 1981, where heritage meets performance in pure racing conditions.

From the outset, one thing is clear: the field is stronger than ever. Defending champions Peter Bachofen and Dario Inhelder return in their 1750 GTAm with a target on their backs, but the fight ahead is wide open. The level across the grid leaves no margin for control, and with more drivers expected to join as the season progresses, the battle at the front is set to intensify round after round.

All eyes are also on Arturo Merzario. Back after his standout appearance at Imola last season, his presence immediately raises the stakes. Teaming up with Fabrizio Zamuner, he brings experience, edge and unpredictability into an already competitive field.

The grid is anything but uniform. Alfa Delta OKP arrives in force, Formula GT builds on a tight and focused lineup, while Team Carrera spans eras and machinery with a broad entry. Beyond the teams, it’s the individual stories that define the spirit of the series. André Kardol lines up without a structured operation behind him, embodying the raw, uncompromised essence of historic racing. Gianluca Bardelli and Nicola Cippone return with their Alfetta GT America, joined by the new pairing of Atul Saini and Peter Praller, and Fred Arve Monsen in the Giulia Sprint GTA. Making their debut, Salvatore Carbone, alongside Antonio Palma and Guglielmo Maggio, will be looking to make an immediate impact.

Mugello is more than just the opening round. It is the first real test. The split between E/F and G/H/I periods defines two distinct racing worlds sharing the same track. On one side, lighter, more original-spec cars where precision is everything. On the other, more developed machinery pushing performance to a different level.

In the E/F group, the margins are minimal. Roberto Lonardi’s Giulietta Spider Veloce goes head-to-head with the Morteo brothers’ Giulietta TI, while the Giulia Sprint GTA brings together drivers such as Giampaolo Benedini with Bruno Ferrari and Giovanni Serio alongside Franco Mischis, in battles where control and consistency outweigh outright speed.

In the G/H/I group, performance steps up and the level of competition intensifies. The 1750 GTAm cars take centre stage, forming the core of the battle for overall honours with a field packed with proven contenders and dangerous outsiders. Davide Bertinelli, Mario Salomone together with Giacomo Barri, and Ambrogio Perfetti, winner here in 2025, all enter as serious threats. Alongside them, Francesco Pantaleo and young Marco Guerra, Giulio and Mattia Sordi, Francesco Siccardi, Alberto Franceschetti, Hans Luginbühl, Bernhard Laber and Lukas Stojetz, Umberto and Marco Brustio, Franco Monguzzi and Carlo Barbolini Cionini form a group where any mistake will be punished immediately.

The picture is completed by the Period I cars. Group 5 entries see Walter Ben, Federico Buratti with Massimiliano Bettati, and Massimo and Marco Guerra take the fight further, while the Alfetta GT Turbodelta of Alessandro Morteo and Lorenzo Moramarco adds another layer to an already complex grid.

At Mugello, speed alone is never enough. Race management, strategy and precision define the outcome. In such a tight field, the action multiplies. Not one race, but several unfolding at once, across classes and periods.

Track action begins on Saturday, April 18, with free practice sessions at 08:30 and 11:10, followed by qualifying at 15:25. On Sunday, April 19, at 14:10, the lights go out and the 2026 season gets underway.

Mugello starts the season. More importantly, it sets the tone. Hard racing, open battles, no clear favourites.
